It is September already and Fall Migration is around the corner. The Charity Golf Tournament will be held September 13th at the Valley at Eastport. If you haven’t signed up to play yet, you have until September 10th to get your entry form in to Geoff Girling. The golfers who played last year told us they had a great time so don’t miss out. Forms can be printed from the website.
The drawing for the golf cart will be held Sunday, September 21st at 1 PM at Fat Harold’s. Linda Campbell could use some more volunteers to help sell tickets during Fall Migration. Please let her know if you can help. Tina Tomberlin could also use some help in our Ways and Means store during the same time. If you can volunteer a couple of hours of your time, it will help our club and you will make new friends.
The entertainment for the August party was hilarious. Thanks to all who participated in the Black and White Dance. These members practiced for three months to be able to entertain us at the party.
Thank you to Howard Stallings and his helpers for another great “Cruise to Nowhere” which was held August 29th. The weather was perfect; and the crew of The Hurricane always does a great job chauffeuring us up and down the waterway while we party.
At the October party at the Pirate’s Cove, we will be announcing the winner of the Al Cain Award. This award is given to a member who has given their time above and beyond the normal to help the Club over the years. If you know someone you would like to nominate, please write up an article detailing all this person has done and e-mail it to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or give it to me in person before September 22nd.
Clean Sweep will be Saturday, September 27th. For new members, this is when we clean Main Street and the beach and Ocean Boulevard for 5 blocks north and south of Main Street as a community service after SOS. We will meet at 8:30 AM in the back part of the Pavilion. Coffee and some type of breakfast items will be available. Let Bruce and Cathy Fitzsimmons know if you can help.
Linda Morrison has informed me that we broke the 800 mark in membership. The more the merrier is what we say. We hope to see most of you at SOS. Party safely and have a safe trip home after the festivities.

If you stepped into Fat Harold’s on Saturday around 6:00, you would have thought you were in Hollywood at the Oscar Nominations. The theme was Vintage Hollywood and the Decorating Committee did a dynamite job of transforming the club into Hollywood. Jimmy Buffkin was spinning wonderful tunes from the old Hollywood era!
The Food Committee changed the format for food…..now, I know that most of us don’t like change…..but, everyone seemed pleasantly surprised with this change. Tickets for food were given out at the door in 4 different colors. Then, the different tickets were drawn to determine which group went first. Each line moved through quickly. It gave you more time to socialize without standing in line. Everyone had plenty to eat and there was even food left over. Kudos to the Food Committee!
In case you missed it, the nominations for next year’s officers were announced. Listed below are the candidates for office: Click here or on any candidate to view profiles.
I really cannot describe the entertainment for this party. It was absolutely fabulous! Hopefully, we can get them to perform this act again at one of our charity events or a party in the future. I was blown away!
We have 150 people in attendance for the party. Diane Tindall won $20 in the nametag drawing. John Barringer won $20 for the logo drawing and Brian Schmitt was the winner of the 50/50 drawing.
Thanks again to everyone who made this party really special! It was fabulous!
The Jr. SOS Brunch was a great success. Thanks to all who brought food and helped serve at the event. We have some really good cooks in the club. The food committee has done a wonderful job this year planning our events. With the soaring prices of food, they have tried to do the best they can to make sure we have enough food for everyone at each party, so please don’t expect gourmet meals.
Those that participated in the Poker Run on July 26th had a great time. The weather was great and we had over 100 participants. Thanks to Jim Queen, Paul Harrison, Wanda Queen, Vicki Harrison, and Susan Harrell who planned and worked the event. The only problem at the event was a few members that tried to bring their own drinks into the businesses that participated and were kind enough to provide door prizes. Please do not try that again. These few people will ruin it for the rest of the club as businesses will refuse to participate in the future.
August is Nomination Month. A new slate of officers and two board of directors will be nominated to serve the club in 2015. The nominating committee has been soliciting candidates for these positions and will present them at the party at Fat Harold’s on August 16th. They will take nominations from the floor that night, but when nominations are closed that night, there will be no additions. So if you plan to run for a position, please contact the nominating committee, Peggy Christie, Bill Bacon, Lou Martino, Rich Young or Debra Schmitt, as soon as possible.
“The Cruise to Nowhere” sets sail Friday, August 29th at 6 PM and returns at 8 PM. The cruise is limited to 100 members/guests. If you want to go, please contact Howard Stallings at 843-997-7336. The cost is $20 for single and $35 for couple. There are no refunds. If you are unable to go after buying your ticket, you will have to try selling it yourself. If the weather does not cooperate, there will be a rain date at a later time. You may bring your own beverages in plastic bottles. Snacks will be served.
Our Golf Committee is diligently working on our ODSC Charity Golf Tournament, which will be held September 13th at The Valley at Eastport golf course. You can help them in many ways. Get a hole sponsorship from a business or service you use regularly. If not a hole sponsorship, then ask if they can provide a raffle prize for the day of the tournament. Volunteer to work at the tournament. They can always use an extra pair of hands and it is a great way to get to know other members. Bring any prizes you get to our September Board meeting.
We now have 795 members in our club. I hope to see many of you at our upcoming events. Enjoy the rest of your summer and remember my favorite motto: “BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED!”

ODSC Poker Run
We had a great turnout for the Poker Run last weekend and the weather was beautiful.
Due to Hillside being closed, we were not able to make it to JC Lounge, so the OD Arcade was our first 2 stops. Then we went to Boardwalk Billy’s and after that went to Fat Harold’s. Everyone had a wonderful time and this was how it all played out…
52 Mulligans were sold
15 people drew Jokers and instantly received their entry money back.
1st Place Jon Holtzclaw won $500 with 59
2nd Place Frank Costanzo won $200 with 58
Low Hand $300 went to Tina Tomberlin with a 10
Wendy Schultz won $270 from the 50/50
Camp Kemo to receive $271 from the 50/50
We gave away numerous money envelopes with $25 and $50 cash and we had prizes donated at each stop. We also had prizes donated by Archie Anderson with Coca-Cola, Kay Anderson with First Citizens Bank, Frances Rogers with NBSC and Ronnie Rogers with Tomlinson’s.
We need a big thanks to Jim Queen, Paul Harrison, Wanda Queen and Susan Harrell, along with all the other volunteers that made this happen for us. Great job guys, we had a blast!!
